Duff talked to E! in December 2017 about how her and Koma's relationship was going, revealing then that it was on-off in the beginning.

"It's going so great," Duff said of their status then. "I mean, this is the third time that we've dated and I think that what Selena [Gomez] says has so much merit to it. Timing is such a big deal… third time's a charm!"

Gomez, at the time, had told Billboard of her friendship/then-rekindled romance with Justin Bieber: "I'm 25. I'm not 18, or 19, or 20. I cherish people who have really impacted my life. So maybe before, it could have been forcing something that wasn't right. But that doesn't mean caring for someone ever goes away. And [that goes for] people in general."

Gomez and Bieber ultimately split in late February 2018, and Bieber went on to marry Hailey Baldwin.
