Unless you've been living in an unfortunate wet corner of Scotland, you've probably been enjoying some blistering British sunshine over the last week.

This might have got you in the mood for camping, unhealthy amounts of cider and a trip to a music festival. Unfortunately, if you want to go to Glastonbury this year, you're out of luck. All the tickets are gone.

However, don't despair. What's even better than a party in a British field? A party on a European beach. Obviously.

1. Exit

When: July 10-13
Where: Novi Sad, Serbia
The lineup: Damon Albarn, Gloria Gaynor, Jamiroquai, Rudimental, Suede, Skrillex, Disclosure, Example.

A festival. In a Petrovaradin Fortress. In Serbia. It certainly beats hanging out in your wellies in a field in Reading.

And if you're feeling particularly hardcore, you can add in the Sea Dance Festival over in sunny Montenegro to turn your trip into a seven-day party.

Exit has a rich history, starting out as part of a student peace movement, and has evolved into one of Europe's coolest and best value-for-money festivals. The lineups are always dance-heavy, but it also likes to throw in a rogue headliner every now and then. Gloria Gaynor anyone? We don't mind if we do.

2. Primavera Sound Festival

When: May 28-31
Where: Barcelona
The lineup: Arcade Fire, The National, Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age, Neutral Milk Hotel, Pixies *deep breath* HAIM, Television, Sky Ferreira, Mogwai, Spoon, Chromeo, Black Lips and many, many more.

The hipster event of choice this summer. If you can find a decent last minute flight to Barcelona and you can wangle next week off work, this is the place to be.

With a lineup oozing indie cred and stacked with must-see acts, it's one of the biggest and arguably the best music festival for people who just want to see a shedload of awesome bands. We also hear the weather in Barcelona is pretty decent this time of year.

3. Melt Festival

When: July 18-20.
Where: Ferropolis, Germany
The lineup: Portishead, Robyn, Röyksopp, Bombay Bicycle Club, Pretty Lights, Metronomy, Chromeo, Little Dragon, SBTRKT, of Montreal, Four Tet, Haim.

A European festival that still has a distinctly European vibe, which is becoming increasingly rare as Brits head abroad more and more for their summer musical japes.

Put together the best dance and indie acts with a bizarre but strangely beautiful setting of a disused mine, and you've got a recipe for laid-back cool and some seriously good vibes.

4. Sziget

When: August 11-18.
Where: Budapest.
The lineup: Blink 182, Jimmy Eat World, Cee Lo Green, The Prodigy, Manic Street Preachers, Outkast, The 1975, Bastille, Lily Allen, Bombay Bicycle Club.

That's one hell of a lineup you've got there Budapest. What more reason could you need to head to the idyllic Hungarian party for a week?

It always comes near the top of any European Festival awards and with sunshine in the 30s in August time and the chance to chill out in the historic city of Sziget thrown into the bargain, it's a pretty easy sell. Glastowhatnow?

5. Benicàssim

When: July 17-20
Where: Benicàssim, Castelló, Spain
The lineup: Tinie Tempah, Kasabian, The Libertines, Paolo Nutini, Jake Bugg, Manic Street Preachers, Paul Weller, Presidents of the United States of America.

One of the first European festivals to cash in on the high demand for Glastonbury tickets - and the market for people who want a festival minus the risk of mud - this sunny Spanish weekend always has a solid mix of mainstream rock and electronic artists and you won't need to pack your wellies.

This year's lineup may lean quite heavily towards laddish guitar music, but throw in some Spanish sun and a beach, and the fact you might have to put up with an extended Paul Weller set doesn't seem quite so bad.

6. Meadows in the Mountains

When: June 13-15
Where: Smolyan, Bulgaria
The lineup: Nobody we've heard of. Just loads of cool DJs and an after-party that's a pool party. Yes. A pool party.

If you fancy something a little bit more outlandish than Glastonbury/Reading & Leeds in the sunshine, a trip to the Rhodopian Mountains might be up your street. Apparently you can expect horses, downhill grass bobsleighing, a death slide and pool parties. It's all about escaping the 9-5 grind, debauched larks and spiritual vibes in the mountains.

Oh, and did we mention pool parties. Pool. Parties.

7. Roskilde

When: June 29-July 6
Where: Roskilde County, Denmark
The lineup: The Rolling Stones, Arctic Monkeys, Damon Albarn, Kasabian, Outkast, Chromeo, Stevie Wonder, Bastille, Deftones.

If you didn't get a ticket to see Jagger and Richards at Glastonbury last year, the Rolling Stones are heading to Northern Europe's biggest music festival in 2014 - Denmark's Roskilde.

Like Glasto it has a rich heritage (it's been going since 1971) and is non-profit, so if you want to capture a bit of the Glastonbury spirit, this is probably your best bet.
