The Nobel Prize voting committee is probably breathing a sigh of relief right now because Bob Dylan will indeed accept this year's Literature award.

The 75-year-old iconic singer-songwriter was selected as this year's Nobel Laureate for Literature for creating "new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition".

Quite a huge honour - and yet Dylan failed to contact the Nobel organisation after his triumph and basically ignored winning our greatest cultural prize.

Per Wastberg of the Nobel committee even complained that Dylan's snub was "rude and arrogant", complaining to Sweden's STV: "He seems to be a very grumpy and reluctant man, and I didn't find it surprising at all."

Wastberg might want to take those insults back because Dylan now tells the UK's Daily Telegraph that he will "absolutely" attend the Nobel ceremony "if it's at all possible".

"[It's] amazing, incredible. Whoever dreams about something like that?" Dylan wondered.

This year's Nobel Prize ceremony is scheduled for December 10 in Stockholm, where the awards for Economic Sciences, Physics, Chemistry and Physiology or Medicine will also be handed out.

Luckily, Dylan wraps up the latest leg of his 'Never Ending Tour' in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on November 23.

In accepting the Nobel Prize for Literature, he joins an esteemed group of winners that includes the novelist Samuel Beckett, author Toni Morrison and the great playwright Harold Pinter.

Dylan is a member of the Rock and Roll and Grammy Halls of Fame, and has 13 Grammy Awards and a Presidential Medal of Freedom to his credit as well.
