Angelina Jolie could be back in awards contention for her new movie Maria, and we now have the first trailer for the biopic.
Written by Peaky Blinders boss Steven Knight and directed by Pablo Larraín, the movie sees Jolie play the world's greatest female opera singer Maria Callas and tells the story of her final days in 1970s Paris.
The largely-wordless first trailer doesn't reveal Jolie's singing as Maria Callas, but does reveal the sumptuous visuals that await us in the movie as well as a tease of the tragedy in store.
Maria will be released in UK cinemas on January 10, 2025, through Studiocanal, and receives its UK premiere at next month's BFI London Film Festival on Friday, October 18.

The movie will be released by Netflix in the US after the streaming service picked it up at its world premiere in Venice. It will have a limited US theatrical run from November 27, before landing on Netflix on December 11.
What to Read Next
UK and Ireland viewers will have to wait to watch Maria on Netflix as it will likely arrive later in 2025 due to an existing deal between Netflix and Studiocanal.
The theatrical run in the US means Maria will qualify for the Oscars, among other awards ceremonies.
It's heavily predicted that Jolie will pick up her third Oscar nomination, following Girl, Interrupted and Changeling, for the movie. If she wins, it'll be her second Oscar win and first as Best Actress as she won Best Supporting Actress for Girl, Interrupted.

Larraín's previous two biopics Jackie and Spencer both led to Oscar nominations for their lead stars.
Neither Natalie Portman nor Kristen Stewart won the Oscar for their portrayals of Jackie Kennedy and Diana Spencer, respectively, so perhaps Maria will prove to be third time lucky next year.
Maria is released in UK cinemas on January 10, 2025. It will be released on Netflix in the US on December 11.
