The first trailer for Inside Out 2 has arrived.

The sequel to Pixar's hit 2015 movie is set to continue the story of Riley and the emotions in her head, this time as she enters teenagehood.

With these changes, fans are set to be introduced to a new emotion – Anxiety (confirmed to be voiced by Stranger Things' Maya Hawke).

The first trailer starts with the return of regulars Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith) and Anger (Lewis Black), as well as Fear and Disgust, who are now voiced by Tony Hale and Liza Lapira – taking over from Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling.

However, their layer is invaded by beings, who proceed to sabotage the place for "Demo Day", before the five emotions are shocked to see their console has turned orange.

Inside Out 2 was officially announced last year at the D23 Expo, with Poehler teasing: "I guess I won't tell them about the new emotions that show up. Inside Out 2 comes out summer of 2024."

Kelsey Mann takes over as director from Pete Docter, and original Inside Out co-writer Meg LeFauve is back to write the screenplay.

Opening up about the newest character, Mann explained: “Anxiety, voiced by Maya Hawke, might be new to the crew, but she’s not really the type to take a back seat. That makes a lot of sense if you think about it in terms of what goes on inside all our minds.”

Kaling revealed earlier this year that she would not be returning, confirming to The Wrap: "I had a great time working on Inside Out and am sure Inside Out 2 will be great. But I'm not working on it."

The most recent Pixar movie was Elemental, which didn't make an initial splash at the box office but has since gone on to become a hit, including on streamer Disney+.

Inside Out 2 will be released in cinemas in June 2024.
