Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn's new horror film Brightburn has finally dropped its first trailer and has unveiled a world where superpowers doesn't always mean superhero.

Brightburn is a terrifying take on a Superman-style story, exploring what would happen if an orphan alien turned out to have a dark side.

In the clip, a young woman (Elizabeth Banks) discovers a baby from another world who has crash-landed on Earth, leading her and her husband to adopt the "special" child – but as he gets older, young Brandon starts to behave oddly and it isn't long before he's turning violent.

The film, which is produced by Gunn and directed by David Yarovesky, was originally scheduled for release in November, but was later pushed back to May next year.

We were supposed to get our first look at the new horror film at San Diego Comic-Con in July too, but this was also delayed due to the controversy surrounding Gunn after he was fired by Disney when old tweets containing controversial jokes re-surfaced.

Gunn was later confirmed to no longer be directing the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, despite the film's cast publicly sharing their support for him.
