Star Wars Episode 9 was pretty much restarted following Carrie Fisher's tragic death.

Last month, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that Fisher won't be in Episode 9 as they're not going to recreate her digitally, but we will be seeing "a lot of her" in The Last Jedi.

And it seems now that the team behind Episode 9 has come up with a way to move forward. "Obviously, with Carrie having passed away, it shook everybody," Kennedy told EW. "We pretty much started over."

Episode 9 will be directed by Jurassic World's Colin Trevorrow, who will be writing the script with regular collaborator Derek Connolly.

Fisher actually helped write The Last Jedi, but we still don't know where the upcoming movie will leave General Leia Organa, or where Episode 9 could possibly take her character.

It has been rumoured though that Leia will have a showdown with the First Order's mysterious master, Supreme Leader Snoke, in the first act of The Last Jedi.

Whatever happens in the movies though, Fisher will never be far from the thoughts of Star Wars fans and anyone who knew her.

To mark May the Fourth, Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd paid a lovely tribute to her late mother with a throwback photo of her mum carrying her as a child while Chewie walked behind them.

Star Wars Episode 9 will be released in cinemas on May 24, 2019.
