47 Meters Down, the shark thriller which became an unexpected hit this summer, is set to get a sequel that goes even further – literally.
The aptly titled second movie 48 Meters Down has just been announced, and will see the first movie's Johannes Roberts return to write and direct.
The upcoming sequel moves the action from Mexico to Brazil, where a group of girls look for adventure on the coast Recife. However, going by the shark danger in the first movie, we imagine things probably won't go quite to plan for the group.
"We are so pleased by the huge success of 47 Meters Down; it totally exceeded all expectations," said James Harris of producers The Fyzz Facility (via The Hollywood Reporter).
"48 Meters Down will take the claustrophobia of cave diving and the thrill of shark encounters and move everything to the next level."
47 Meters Down starred This Is Us' Mandy Moore and Pretty Little Liars actress Claire Holt. It raked-in $53 million globally, which is a pretty big achievement for an independent movie.
What to Read Next
The original movie followed two sisters, played by Mandy and Claire, who go into a diving cage to view sharks in Mexico.
The girls get trapped when the cage breaks free from the boat it was attached to, and with less than an hour left of oxygen, they must (quickly!) find their way back to their boat through shark-infested waters.
