Details of Klementieff's role are scarce, but her character is expected to have a major impact on the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 plot.

Klementieff is a relative newcomer, having most famously appeared in Spike Lee's Oldboy remake and several French films.

Director James Gunn's sequel will bring back the five core cast members from the original movie - Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper – for an all-new adventure.

Gunn is also bringing back Benicio del Toro as the devious Collector and Karen Gillan as Nebula – who will have an expanded presence in the sequel.

One Marvel hero you should not expect to see is The Hulk, given that Gunn has squarely shot down rumours of a cameo from Mark Ruffalo.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 opens on May 5, 2017.
