The Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase 4 is off with a bang. First, Black Widow debuted on Disney+ followed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in cinemas. Now, we're looking forward to Eternals, a film set to truly shake up the MCU as we know it.

Eternals is unique within the MCU for many reasons, but one of the most exciting is that it's directed by Oscar winner Chloé Zhao (Nomadland). Then there's the sheer size of the star-studded cast, and the mythology into which the movie is going to tap.

With its memorable one-word title, Eternals is certainly a film on every Marvel lover's mind. Here's what we know so far about the upcoming movie.

Eternals release date: When is Eternals out in cinemas?

When it was first announced, Marvel's Eternals was set to land in cinemas on November 6, 2020 making it the second movie in Phase 4. But given the huge delays, Marvel's Eternals was pushed back to November 5, 2021.

The movie will be released in cinemas. Given Shang-Chi's success and Disney's seeming pullback from its day and date releases, it's unlikely Eternals will come out on Disney+ until well after its likely-exclusive cinematic run.

Eternals cast: Who will be in Eternals?

The cast itself is stuffed with stars we've finally been able to gush over thanks to the trailers; it's a cast brimming with big names.

Angelina Jolie plays Thena, a warrior Eternal who can form any weapon out of cosmic energy. Jolie was one of the first actors we saw in costume in some leaked set photos, though now we have an official still thanks to the aforementioned footage.

Bodyguard and Game of Thrones' star Richard Madden plays Ikaris, with Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, who uses his powers to become a famous actor. Salma Hayek (sporting a Western rodeo look in the promo footage) plays Ajak, with Lauren Ridloff (The Walking Dead) as Makkari.

Brian Tyree Henry plays Phastos, Lia McHugh is Sprite and Don Lee is Gilgamesh – an eternal with whom Thena has a close bond in the comics. Barry Keoghan plays Druig and Kit Harington, also of Game of Thrones fame, plays Dane Whitman aka The Black Knight.

According to Feige, the lead – if he had to pick one – in the massive list of characters is Gemma Chan's (Crazy Rich Asians, Captain Marvel) Sersi.

Eternals plot: What will Eternals be about?

The official synopsis reads: "Marvel Studios' Eternals features an exciting new team of Super-Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind's most ancient enemy, the Deviants."

Eternals will for the first time feature a prominent LGBTQ+ relationship, and we got our first glance their family in a recently released "TV" spot above. We only know as much as can be gleaned from the various trailers and teasers, but Eternals seems promisingly epic in scope.

Eternals trailer: When will the Eternals trailer be released?

The trailer is available to watch above, as well as the TV spot that gives us a better look at Gilgamesh. Now, however, it's only a countdown until the movie itself debuts in cinemas

Eternals will be released in cinemas on November 5, 2021.
