Laurence Fishburne has made his MCU debut in Ant-Man and the Wasp (although sadly those of us in the UK will have to wait until August to see it) but he's admitted that he has bigger ambitions when it comes to his role.

What to Read Next

A lot bigger, in fact.

The Ant-Man sequel sees Fishburne play Bill Foster, a former SHIELD colleague of Frank Pym (Michael Douglas) – but those who are familiar with the Ant-Man comics will know that there's more to the character.

In wider Marvel mythology, Bill is also a superhero who has the ability to grow to an enormous size and as such became known as Goliath in the comics (among other superhero identities).

And although Bill doesn't don a costume in Ant-Man and the Wasp, Fishburne is very keen to make it happen in any further films.

"If it happens, if I get to suit up, great," he told Den of Geek. "If I don't get to suit up, at least I'm in the MCU."

Despite admitting that he hadn't read the Ant-Man comics, he spoke about how excited he was to take on the role of Bill, calling it "a great gift".

"I wasn't a reader of those books. I did know who they were peripherally just because I read all the other books," he said.

"But I thought it was a such a great gift. It's a beautiful character. It's a beautiful way for me to enter into the universe."

Fishburne's MCU debut means he's now a part of a group of actors – alongside Ryan Reynolds and Ben Affleck – who have appeared in both Marvel and DC properties, having played Daily Planet editor Perry White in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

But despite the rivalry between them, he refused to pick a favourite between the franchises.

"I'm in that small club of people who have been both in the DC Universe and Marvel Universe, and I'm so grateful," he said.

"I'm excited by it, because here's the thing, I bought both. I have a collection of both comics. I wasn't just a Marvel guy or just a DC guy, I loved them both."

Ant-Man and the Wasp is out now in the US. It will be released in the UK on August 2. Book tickets here.
