If The LEGO Movie 2 is anything like the original, it's going to be hilarious – and this news pretty much confirms it: comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish has now joined the cast of the animation, says the Hollywood Reporter.

Although details about her role – and the plot in general – remains a closely guarded secret, THR describes her as a "key new character".

Tiffany made her film breakthrough in last year's Girls Trip, which also starred Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett Smith, and hosted Saturday Night Live in November 2017.

She's soon set to play the female lead in sitcom The Last O.G. and will also star opposite Kevin Hart in comedy Night School, which is due out later this year.

The LEGO Movie 2 will see most of the cast from the original film return – including Chris Pratt, who voices master builder Emmet, and Elizabeth Banks, who voices Wyldstyle.

Will Arnett will reprise his role as Batman for the third time, after getting his own spin-off with 2017's The LEGO Batman Movie, while Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill will be back as Superman and Green Lantern respectively.

The LEGO Movie 2, the sequel to 2014's original hit, is being directed by Mike Mitchell and produced by Dan Lin, Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

It's due for release on February 8, 2019 and we cannot wait, especially as LEGO Batman director Chris McKay has announced that it's going to be a "big musical and space action movie".
