It's been a while since we've heard anything about The LEGO Movie spin-off The Billion Brick Race, but now that we finally do have some news, it's a pretty big announcement.

Yes, the film has landed itself a new director, two years after it was announced that How I Met Your Mother star Jason Segel had signed up to take on the role alongside Iron Man 3 writer Drew Pearce.

Instead, The Book of Life director Jorge Gutierrez has now joined the project as the director, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and has been brought on to help develop the project.

Gutierrez is best known for his work on Guillermo Del Toro's 2014 animated musical The Book of Life, and has worked as an animator for sketches in Cartoon Network's Mad, and as a writer on Disney's Brandy and Mr Whiskers, among other projects.

He's also won two Annie awards (Best TV Animated show & Best TV Character Design) and one Emmy (Best TV Character Design) for his work on Nickelodeon's El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera.

The Billion Brick Race is based on an original idea from Pearce and is currently still in development.
