Fans of cult novel Ready Player One might want to prepare themselves for Steven Spielberg's movie adaptation not being quite as faithful as they'd like.
Last month, TJ Miller revealed that his character i-R0k is not in Ernest Cline's novel and said that "some plot points are different", and now Rogue One's Ben Mendelsohn has opened up about his take on Nolan Sorrento.
"I'm not trying to be faithful to the book Sorrento at all. So, anyone that's coming at it wanting a faithful re-creation or transposing of the written Sorrento is not gonna get it," he told The Wrap.
"I would rarely do that because my feeling about written literature characters is you don't get to better them. My basic preference is to just try and wipe that slate, and to try and do it in context of what is going on around the film."
Ready Player One revolves around a virtual reality world called the OASIS whose creator (played by Mark Rylance) leaves behind an Easter Egg when he dies.
Whoever discovers the egg inherits his fortune, leading to a deadly hunt by players, which Sorrento gets involved in with his group of bounty hunters called the 'Sixers' as he wants to take control of the OASIS.

Mendelsohn added that his Sorrento and the book's Sorrento are "very different entities".
"I sort of see that stuff as playing a song live. And part of the joy of playing a song live is re-interpreting it, or switching it up, or giving it a newness or an alternative. Because I think the books are their own kind of perfection, and I don't try to fall short of them," he explained.
Given the talent behind and in front of camera, including Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke and Simon Pegg, we remain hopeful that Ready Player One can capture the magic of the book.
