Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson are shifting into gear for their very own Fast & Furious spinoff.

What to Read Next

The action movie titans are in talks to reunite with screenwriter Chris Morgan on a side adventure while Universal works on ideas for the next official Fast & Furious 8 sequel, reports Deadline.

In what sounds like a twist on the classic buddy cop formula, hulking secret service agent Luke Hobbs (Johnson) and terrorist-turned-vigilante Deckard Shaw (Statham) will be forced to trust one another when they're targeted by the same foe.

Dwayne Johnson first let slip that a Hobbs spinoff was in the works last week, but admitted he was taking a wait-and-see approach until Fast & Furious 8 hit cinemas.

"Right now, I shared with the studio, let's deliver 8 and hopefully have the world enjoy 8," he told MTV News. "Then we can come back to the table and talk about what a spinoff looks like because it is the studio's intention to do that.

"I'm not one to say, 'Great! We're gonna make 9 and 10 and 22 and then 109'. I'm one to do just one at a time, so we'll see."

The record-breaking $532.5 million worldwide box office debut last weekend must have convinced The Rock that a spinoff was probably a good idea.

On top of this spinoff, there were reports earlier in the week that Johnson and Vin Diesel recently ended their very public feud and agreed to work together again on Fast & Furious 9 — which is only in development right now.
