After pressing Ctrl-Alt-Delete on a third Tron movie, Disney is apparently looking to restore the franchise to its factory settings and reboot it with a brand new lead star.
The Hollywood Reporter states that the House of Mouse has just the star in mind as well...
Yup, it's 30 Seconds to Mars frontman, Oscar winner, and worst present giver ever Jared Leto.
Studio bosses are said to be looking to retool the scripts for what would have been Tron 3 into their reboot, with Suicide Squad and Blade Runner 2049 star Leto playing the character Ares.
Ares has never made an appearance in the franchise before, but is said to be a "key player" in the original script and reboot.
Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski said very recently (this week in fact) that "Tron 3 is in cryogenic freeze. So, it's there. It's not dead. It's alive, but it's sitting there, waiting for the right time to move forward."
What to Read Next
Is this what Kosinski was referring to? THR's saying that as it's so early in the pre-production stage, it's not yet clear whether he'll be involved in the new movie.
But what is clear is that if the movie goes forward, Tron: Legacy co-producer Justin Springer is expected to be on board. No word yet on whether we can expect to see Garret Hedlund, Olivia Wilde or original star Jeff Bridges yet.
Tron: Legacy was released in 2010 and made a solid $397 million. But when you've got Marvel and Star Wars under your belt, Tron isn't really going to be your priority, is it?
