With Carrie's funeral taking place later today (Thursday, January 5), this moving image by cartoonist Andrew Fyfe, which sees the ensemble Star Wars cast silhouetted against the image of Princess Leia set in the stars, is being widely shared online.

Carrie's role as Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy (and as General Leia Organa in The Force Awakens) is arguably one of the most iconic female roles in cinema.

On the news of her death, dedicated fans even constructed an impromptu star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame to honour the actress, with the phrase 'May the Force be with you always' and 'Hope' inscribed on it.

There has also been a petition to make Princess Leia into an official Disney Princess.
