So far, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been so white. Over the years, they've been accused of white-washing (hello: Doctor Strange's Ancient One) and not casting with enough diversity.
So one would have assumed that Zendaya's upcoming role in the latest Spider-Man movie would have been met with cheers, not jeers. But alas, that's not the case, as the ugly side of the internet reared its unpleasant head again.
Spider-Man: Homecoming will be the Disney star's big career break, but she's been forced to defend herself after some fans jumped to conclusions that she would be playing love interest Mary Jane Watson, who is traditionally shown as ginger and Caucasian.
"People are going to react over anything. But nothing [about who she is playing] is fact," Zendaya told The Hollywood Reporter. "It's like, you guys are just making shit up at this point and then reacting to it.
"Whenever we were on set, one of us gets some random character name [on the call sheet]. [Bloggers were] like, 'Oh they must be so and so.' And we just crack up about it, because it's like, 'Whatever you want to think. You'll find out.'
"It's funny to watch the guessing game. But of course, there's going to be outrage over that because for some reason some people just aren't ready.

"I'm like, 'I don't know what America you live in, but from what I see when I walk outside my streets of New York right now, I see lots of diversity and I see the real world and it's beautiful,' and that's what should be reflected and that's what is reflected so you're just going to have to get over it."
And the 20-year-old has been using her social media platforms to talk about race and her experience as an African-American.
"Recently my Snapchat has become like a history class," she explained. "I have become an African-American history professor. I thought, 'People are going to be so irritated.' A lot of kids don't even learn some of this stuff in school.
"I feel like if you have a platform, it's your obligation to talk about how you feel. To me there's no excuse to be ignorant anymore. Everything is at your fingertips. You can't pretend like you're not seeing innocent black men being killed. We have videos, and they're circulating all over the internet."
Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into cinemas on July 7, 2017.
