Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson dropped some serious hints about the Sorcerer Supreme's Marvel Cinematic Universe future while chatting with Digital Spy at the film's London premiere on Monday (October 24).

Asked if it was a challenge to keep continuity within the Marvel universe, Derrickson told us: "I didn't have challenge there - [Doctor Strange] is such a standalone movie. But I also know the MCU so well, so I kinda knew how it all worked.

"It was fun to be shooting and have [Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige] show up on set one day and tell us, 'By the way, this is what we're going to be doing in Thor: Ragnarok', and then to sort of pitch me the whole movie. I'm on the inside now. That's fun!"

Those subtle hints fit well with a Doctor Strange post-credits scene teasing at another appearance for Benedict Cumberbatch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Consider this fair warning - there are serious Doctor Strange and MCU spoilers below:

The Doctor Strange post-credits scene has the Sorcerer Supreme meeting up with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) - who seeks his assistance in helping him and brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) find their missing father Odin (Anthony Hopkins).

Rumours of a Doctor Strange cameo in Ragnarok first popped up thanks to a set picture showing Thor with a card addressed to the doctor's mystical Greenwich Village base known as the Sanctum Santorum.

Whether Cumberbatch will actually be seen in Ragnarok or if the post-credits scene was a mere nod to Thor's quest in his next sequel remains to be seen.

The God of Thunder will definitely cross paths once again with Avengers pal Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) in Ragnarok, as they battle the Death Goddess Hela (Cate Blanchett).

While we're busy fantasising about Thor, Loki, Hulk and Strange potentially teaming up, you can go see Doctor Strange when it opens on Tuesday (October 25) in the UK and November 4 in the US. Watch a teaser below:
