Javier Bardem looks set to terrify audiences as Frankenstein's monster in the new Universal Monster Movie series.

According to Variety, the Skyfall and Bitiful star is in talks to join the likes of Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe and Johnny Depp in the expanded film universe.

The first movie in the series, a reboot of The Mummystarring Cruise, Russell Crowe and Annabelle Wallis, is soon to wrap filming.

But Variety adds that it's currently unclear whether Bardem will make his debut in the upcoming film or a future movie.

Incidentally, Bardem was apparently lined up to play the role of Dr Jekyll opposite Cruise in The Mummy, before it went to Crowe.

We're certainly expecting Bardem to be pretty scary as the Monster if he closes on the deal – he did play twisted hitman Anton Chigurh in No Country for Old Men, after all.
