Ever wondered what some of your favourite superhero movies would be like without that ultra recognisable score that sends shivers down your spine?
Well, that's a thought worth holding on to now that composer extraordinaire Hans Zimmer has announced his retirement from scoring the genre.
Speaking to the BBC's HARDtalk , Zimmer explained: "I did Batman Begins with Chris [Nolan] 12 years ago, so The Dark Knight Trilogy might be three movies to you, to me it was 11 years of my life."
That's not to mention the years that would have gone into his most recent work for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and its predecessor Man of Steel.
"This one was very hard for me to do," the award-winning composer said of Batman v Superman. "To try to find a new language."
Zimmer, who has also been behind music for the likes of Interstellar and The Lion King, went on to add: "I might as well say it. I've officially retired from the superhero business."
