Making a Star Wars movie brings with it sky-high expectations - but JJ Abrams only had one requirement when directing The Force Awakens...

Make it delightful.

Speaking to Wired, Abrams expanded on his collaboration with veteran Star Wars screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan, admitting that the pair only established that solitary rule.

"I asked questions like, 'How do we make this movie delightful?' That was really the only requirement Larry and I imposed on each other - the movie needed to be delightful," Abrams recalled.

"It was not about explaining everything away, not about introducing a certain number of toys for a corporation, not about trying to appease anyone. This has only ever been about what gets us excited."

If all those recent trailers are anything to go by, fans won't be feeling short-changed come December.
