LEGO has once again gone there and back again to Middle-earth with a new major Lord of the Rings set.
This time we're heading to Hobbiton for Bilbo Baggins's 111st birthday celebrations with the new 2,017-piece recreation of The Shire. The wholesome LEGO set is packed full of Easter eggs and highlights several iconic moments from the beloved books and films.
But is it a must-have purchase for The Lord of the Rings fans? I sat down and built the set brick-by-brick to uncover everything you need to know.
LEGO The Shire set features
The LEGO The Lord of the Rings: The Shire set is comprised of 2,017 pieces across 15 bags of bricks.
The set guides you through 229 steps to complete the replica of Bilbo's iconic Hobbit hole and surrounding landscape that measures 45cm long and 20cm high.
It also comes with nine minifigures: Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo Baggins, Frodo Baggins, Merry Brandybuck, Pippin Took, Samwise Gamgee, Rosie Cotton, along with Mrs and Mrs Proudfoot.
What to Read Next
Alongside the fan-favourite Shire-dwelling characters, the stunningly detailed set features several key locations. Bag End's entrance hall, study, and parlour, Bilbo’s bustling birthday party, Merry and Pippin's firework-filled gazebo, the giant flying dragon firework, and Gandalf’s horse-driven cart are all included.
Additionally, this LEGO set also has a range of fun interactive elements. Fans can transform a burning envelope into The One Ring and execute Bilbo's mischievous birthday party vanishing act with a turn of a dial.

Why you should buy the LEGO The Shire set
Not only will this LEGO set look impressive on display in your home, but it'll also evoke strong feelings of nostalgia for fans of The Lord of the Rings. Throughout my eight-hour build time, I couldn't help but hum Howard Shore's iconic 'Concerning Hobbits' theme on repeat.
As with many other LEGO sets, The Shire replica is filled with special details and references that will warm the hearts of fans.
A collection of Lord of the Rings artefacts can be found scattered throughout the set, including Bilbo's sword Sting, his mithril shirt, his book There and Back Again and, of course, the One Ring to rule them all.
There were some fiddly sections of the construction including placing small stickers on some Hobbit-sized items but overall it's a very fun build.
While other Lord of the Rings LEGO sets may deliver a more impressive structure (check out the enormous Barad-dûr set if detailed architecture is more your style), The Shire offers up true story-telling ability.
With so many memorable moments from the movies captured throughout the set, fans of the beloved film trilogy will be overjoyed to play around with the varying scene setting options.
For example, you can either have Sam "droppin' no eaves" on Frodo and Gandalf from the bushes beneath Bag End's window or dancing with Rosie Cotton beside Bilbo enormous birthday cake.
My personal favourite is being able to style the Merry and Pippin minifigures as either pre- or post-firework explosion.
While it is on the pricey side, at £229.99 it's still significantly cheaper than some of the other Lord of the Rings LEGO sets available.
The Shire is definitely a worthwhile investment for fans who'd love a little slice of Hobbiton in their own home.
The Lord of the Rings: The Shire set is available to buy right now from LEGO's official site.
