Star Trek: Section 31 spoilers follow.

Star Trek's new movie Section 31 features a cameo appearance from an A-List actor that no-one knew about it until it premiered.

Focusing on Michelle Yeoh's character from Discovery, former evil Emperor Philippa Georgiou, the movie features an on-screen reunion with her Everything Everywhere All at Once co-star Jamie Lee Curtis.

The Halloween actor plays Philippa's boss Control, who we mostly hear as a voice throughout the movie, but she later turns up via hologram right at the end.

Yeoh, executive producer Alex Kurtzman, and director Olatunde Osunsanmi explained to the Miami Herald how the cameo appearance came about, with Kurtzman stating: "Well, obviously Michelle and Jamie, they are very close, right?

"And when I said to Michelle, 'The director of Section 31 should actually be somebody recognisable,' she was like, 'Let's ask Jamie.'

"And I said, 'Well, we'd be the luckiest people in the world.' And she said yes instantly. And she did it, and she came in, and she slayed, and it was pretty great."

Yeoh recalled that it was more a group idea to have Curtis. She said: "We knew that we needed someone who, when anyone saw who was the admiral, they would go like, 'Of course, come on!'.

"And everyone, Alex, Tunde, we all just went, 'Jamie Lee Curtis!' And so they say, 'Can you call her?' And I thought, 'Do I really want to?' And one of her good friends said, 'Take advantage of her. She's good with it.'"

Osunsanmi added: "She ended up being the first day of principal photography. She came in like a killer.

"In two hours, she did it and was out. And it was amazing. I think it feels just right to have it."
