The Housemaid, the upcoming film starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, has confirmed a release date in 2025.
The thriller, which is based on Freida McFadden’s 2022 novel, follows a struggling woman (Sweeney) who begins to work as a housemaid for a wealthy couple (played by Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar), only to discover they harbour some dangerous family secrets.
Variety has now reported that Lionsgate has booked a slot in US cinemas for Christmas Day in 2025.
A UK release date has yet to be confirmed.

Joining Sweeney, Seyfried and Sklenar in the cast is Michele Morrone, with Paul Feig – best known for Bridesmaids, Spy and A Simple Favour – directing a script written by Rebecca Sonnenshine; Sweeney, Seyfried and Feig are also serving as executive producers.

“We’re thrilled to team them with Paul Feig, who we worked with on A Simple Favour and its upcoming sequel, and has a proven track record of developing stories with dynamic female leads.”

Sweeney, who has recently starred in Anyone But You and Immaculate, celebrated her involvement in the project with a playful clip on Instagram, writing: “Tell me about yourself, Millie #TheHousemaidMovie – coming soon!!” as she was filmed reading the novel.
The Housemaid is scheduled to be released in US cinemas on December 25, 2025.
