Ryan Reynolds is lining up a new superhero movie.

The actor recently reprised his role as antihero Deadpool in Marvel's latest blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine, which brought in over $1 billion at the worldwide box office following its release earlier this summer.

According to Variety, Paramount Animation has now tapped Reynolds' production company, Maximum Effort Productions, to bring another hero to the big screen: Mighty Mouse.

The popular cartoon mouse first made his debut back in the 1942 short The Mouse of Tomorrow, before going on to star in multiple other shorts and the Saturday morning cartoon Mighty Mouse Playhouse, which ran from 1955 to 1967.

The character was revived in the 1979 show The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse and Heckle & Jeckle, and again in 1987 with Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures.

Paramount Animation wants to make a feature adaptation of the cartoon, with Matt Lieberman - who worked with Reynolds on 2021's Free Guy - attached to write the script.

No further details, including who will star in the film, have been confirmed at this point in time.

The news comes shortly after Reynolds announced that he is also lining up a movie reunion with Hugh Jackman and Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy for a new, non-Marvel movie he's currently writing.

"I'm spending the year writing," he told Variety last month. "I'm writing a movie for myself, Hugh [Jackman] and Shawn [Levy] to do that is not Marvel."

The actor was also recently asked about the potential return of Deadpool in the next Avengers movie, Avengers: Doomsday, which is due out in May 2026. He neither confirmed nor denied whether this could be a possibility.

"I'm not even being cagey," he said, laughing. "We'll see what happens there."
