Reacher star Willa Fitzgerald is back on our screens in new movie Strange Darling, and it was a role she really wanted to do.

The critically-acclaimed thriller sees the star play the Lady who, when we meet her, is being tracked through the wilderness by the Beast (Kyle Gallner). But everything is not as it seems as the Beast closes in on his prey.

Talking to Digital Spy, Fitzgerald revealed that she had never read a script like the one by JT Mollner – who also directed the movie – and knew instantly she wanted to take on the challenging role.

"I think that the first time I read the script, I have this distinct memory of almost feeling sick because I knew how badly I wanted to play the part," she recalled.

"Generally, when you have that really intense pull to something, I don't know, you generally get the jobs that you don't necessarily know were coming, right? And so I just had this real strong desire to play this character and to do this movie.

"It was just a delight for it to come to fruition."

It's an instinct that paid off as Strange Darling debuted with 100% on Rotten Tomatoes following its world premiere at Fantastic Fest last year, a rating it maintained until only recently.

If you want to see the thriller in the UK, you'll have to wait a little while as it's not released in cinemas until September 20. However, it is holding its European premiere this weekend at London's FrightFest on Saturday, August 24.

While Fitzgerald probably won't be seen in Reacher season three, she'll next be seen in Netflix's upcoming Grey's Anatomy-esque show Pulse.

Strange Darling is out now in US cinemas, and is released in UK cinemas on September 20.
