Deadpool & Wolverine has become the first MCU movie since Spider-Man: No Way Home to reach $1 billion at the global box office.

The record-breaking movie held off It Ends With Us to continue leading the US box office with $54.6 million, and has now amassed $1.03 billion globally after only three weeks of release.

Deadpool & Wolverine is not yet the biggest R-rated movie ever, but it's only a matter of time before it surpasses Joker's final $1.08 billion result.

It's only the second R-rated movie to ever reach the huge milestone.

The huge success of Deadpool & Wolverine has led to speculation about when we'll see Reynolds back as Deadpool in the MCU. However, the star has been clear that this was never planned to be a set-up for another movie.

"This movie was made as a complete experience. It wasn't meant to be a commercial for another movie. It wasn't meant to be any of that stuff. And, I think I get a great deal of joy making a movie like that," he explained.

"But honestly, right in this moment, I have no idea if I'll ever wear that Deadpool suit again – I hope I do – but I don't know. Right now's the time to just kind of hang it up for a bit and see what happens next."

But while Reynolds might not be thinking about the future, Channing Tatum has been asking for a Gambit solo movie after his surprise appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Deadpool & Wolverine is out now in cinemas.
