Deadpool & Wolverine's record-breaking opening weekend was actually even bigger than was originally thought.

It was estimated to have opened with $205 million at the US box office, but that total has now been confirmed to be $211 million.

That marks the sixth biggest opening of all time, the highest July opening weekend ever and the biggest opening since Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021.

Worldwide, the MCU movie grossed a stunning estimated $444.1 million this weekend. That surpasses 2016's Deadpool as the biggest global debut for an R-rated movie ever.

The incredible opening – which also marks the biggest domestic and global opening of the year – has also seen the MCU cross $30 billion at the worldwide box office.

What to Read Next

"Nothing strengthens the Marvel Cinematic Universe or perhaps any cinematic universe like a great movie," said Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige in response to the astonishing opening weekend.

"A great movie is the answer to many cinematic universe issues, and Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman and our director, Shawn Levy, have made a great movie."

Deadpool & Wolverine is only the ninth movie in history to debut with more than $200 million at the US box office.

Worldwide, it's already the sixth highest-grossing movie of the year to date. With an A CinemaScore and a 97% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes (the third-highest ever for an MCU movie), it looks set to have a long run at the box office.

During its run, it seems almost guaranteed that Deadpool & Wolverine will become the biggest R-rated movie at the US box office, a title which is currently held by The Passion of the Christ's $370.8 million result.

Globally, Joker is the highest-grossing R-rated movie with $1.08 billion. Unless Deadpool & Wolverine drops heavily in its second weekend, it'd be a major surprise if it didn't grab that record by the end of its run too.

The record opening follows Marvel's Comic-Con panel last night (July 27), which ended with the shock reveal that Robert Downey Jr is coming back to the MCU as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Will we see Deadpool and Wolverine in those two movies? Don't bet against it.

Deadpool & Wolverine is out now in cinemas.
