Inspired by Danny Lyon's 1968 photobook of the same name, The Bikeriders follows a Midwestern motorcycle club known as The Vandals between 1965 and 1973.

The leader, Johnny (Hardy), wants the most rebellious member of the band, Benny (Butler), to eventually take over from him. However, he is too much of a wild spirit, even for his girlfriend Kathy (Comer), who just wants him to settle down.

The movie is directed by Jeff Nichols and also stars The Walking Dead's Norman Reedus, Bullet Train's Mike Shannon, Narcos' Boyd Holbrook, Paul Sparks, Emory Cohen, Damon Herriman, Beau Knapp and Karl Glusman.

The Bikeriders premiered at the Telluride Film Festival earlier this year with positive reviews. It currently sits on a 81% rating on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes after 230 reviews.

In an exclusive interview with Digital Spy, director Jeff Nichols opened up about how the movie explores the idea of the bikerider.

"People come into this film with an idea of what they think these people are. What's interesting is when you find out they're possibly a bit more, possibly a bit more complicated, more dynamic," he said.

"That's how I felt when I entered the world of Danny Lyon's book, is that I might have had some judgments here, and now these people are talking in a way that I identify with. Then it becomes interesting. Masculinity is difficult to define," Nichols added.

In the same interview, Tom Hardy added: "I think also when you start looking underneath something you understand the connection between the human beings and how they operate."

The actor also said he is eager to work with Austin Butler again in the future.

The Bikeriders is now available to buy or rent from Prime Video, iTunes, Microsoft Store and more in the UK.
