Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes has taken nearly $150 million worldwide as it heads into its second weekend, giving us hope that it could well launch a new Planet of the Apes trilogy as is planned.
The new movie, set roughly 300 years after the death of Caesar, follows young chimpanzee Noa (Owen Teague) who sets out on a journey which changes everything he thought he knew about the past.
Director Wes Ball has said that the new movie is about the "beginning of something" after the previous trilogy was about the end of humanity. "From the beginning we thought about this as a trilogy," he explained.
"We had these grand ideas of where it could ultimately go and how it could fit into the legacy of these movies. So I'm certainly talking to [the studio] right now about the next story."
As a result, you'd be forgiven for thinking Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes would have some sort of tease for the potential sequel in the form of the credit scene.
So, without spoilers, we've got the definitive guide for fans about whether Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes has any post-credits scenes or treats to stick around for.
What to Read Next
Does Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes have a post-credits scene?
We can confirm that Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes does not have any credit scenes, during or after the credits.
So once the movie ends, you can leave safe in the knowledge you won't miss anything.
The movie's ending certainly gives a sense of where the story will go from here, but it's otherwise a self-contained story. It could prove a smart move by the filmmakers if Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes isn't a box-office hit.
Marvel has recently had issues with its credit scenes, setting up multiple plot threads and new characters that we won't see for a while, if ever again. So at least Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes feels like a satisfying whole without a credit scene.
What does that noise mean at the end of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes?
While Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes doesn't have a post-credits scene, there is the sound of an ape as the credits end.
It sounds a lot like Raka, the orangutan who helped Noa on his journey at the cost of his own life when he drowned. However, the noise at the end of the credits has led some fans to believe it's a tease for Raka still being alive.
That's certainly possible, but don't get your hopes up too much. There was a similar noise at the end of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes which some speculated meant that Koba was still alive.
That never panned out in War for the Planet of the Apes, so the noise might mean nothing at all. We'll have to wait to see if we get a sequel to find out.
