Rumours broke yesterday claiming that Roberto Orci, JD Payne and Patrick McKay's script featured a scene for Shatner's Kirk that would reunite him with Leonard Nimoy's Spock.
Orci took to fansite TrekMovie to comment on the speculation, saying: "Love no win scenarios. In theory, damned either way."
He continued: "Not in my interest to confirm or deny anything because it limits my options while maintaining my integrity as a truth teller. The movie is not the movie till it is in the theatre. Until then, everything is a rumour."
Shatner himself responded to the rumours on social media with the following pinned tweet:
Let's talk ST. I don't know anything about the current gossip. Nobody has contacted me. Right now it's just rhetoric to cause hype.

What to Read Next
Shatner and Nimoy haven't appeared in a Star Trek movie together since 1991's Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Shatner's last appearance as Kirk was in 1994's Star Trek: Generations.
JJ Abrams's 2009 Star Trek movie, which rebooted the series with Chris Pine as Kirk and Zachary Quinto and Nimoy playing Spock across two timelines, originally featured a cameo for Shatner's Kirk in the script that was removed in rewrites.
Star Trek 3 is expected to open in cinemas in 2016 to mark the 50th anniversary of Gene Roddenberry's creation.
