Finding a festive film that the entire family will enjoy is often a strategic negotiation that can take hours, but luckily, withA Boy Called Christmas, there shouldn't be any objections from young or old.

Based on a novel written by author Matt Haig (of Midnight Library fame), it's a Father Christmas origin story that features a boy called Nikolas, who is on a journey to find his dad in the snow-filled north with a reindeer by his side. Love Actually (2003)

Is it even Christmas if you don’t comfort-watch Love Actually? This cult favourite follows eight couples as they figure out what love, in all its highs and lows, looks like. Featuring an ensemble of British actors that includes Keira Knightly, Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Colin Firth and, er, Martine McCutcheon, there’s plenty to love about this modern-day hit, actually.

Die Hard (1988)

There’s the ongoing debate as to whether Die Hard is technically a Christmas film. But, it does take place on Christmas Eve, so that’s good enough for us. John McTiernan’s 1988 action film, starring Bruce Willis mostly in a vest, is perfect for balancing out the Christmas schmaltz. With plenty of quotable lines, explosions galore and some kick-ass scenes, Die Hard will definitely snap you out of that chocolate-coin coma.

Buddy (Will Ferrell) is an elf – or so he thinks until the age of 30, when he discovers he’s actually human and sets off to New York to find his dad, Walter (James Caan).
