Scream VI has been a big hit at the box office, confirming what Mindy tells her friends in the new movie: they're definitely a franchise these days.

After all, very few series could survive the absence of its biggest star, and the success of the new Scream movie suggests that Scream was always the draw, whether or not Neve Campbell's Sidney came along for the ride.

(We absolutely want her back for Scream 7 though.)

But now it's a franchise, does it mean that Scream 6 has a credit scene like MCU movies and other franchises do? There's never been a credit scene in a Scream movie, so you might be surprised to learn that Scream 6 does have a post-credit scene.

It comes right at the end of the credits and is more of a gag than an MCU-style teaser for the future. If you didn't stick around for it and want to know what it is, read on past the photo, but otherwise, stop reading.

The credit scene cuts back to Mindy's outlining of the new rules earlier in Scream 6 and gives us one brief, brilliant addition: "Not every movie needs a post-credit scene."

What to Read Next

And that's it. It's a very short scene, but arguably one of the biggest laughs of the movie.

Scream 6 finds Sam (Melissa Barrera), Tara (Jenna Ortega), Chad (Mason Gooding) and Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown) in New York City, hoping to leave the traumatic events of Woodsboro behind.

Unsurprisingly, Ghostface still finds them in the Big Apple and they face another fight for their lives. They've got help in the form of Gale (Courteney Cox) and Scream 4 fan-favourite Kirby (Hayden Panettiere) – but Sidney (Neve Campbell) misses out this time around.

It marks the first Scream movie without Sidney, and Cox recently opened up about her regular co-star's absence. "I missed working with her, but I'm going to support whatever she feels is right," she said.

Scream 6 promises a Ghostface we've never seen before, and that was certainly teased in the trailer where we see the killer wield a shotgun, prompting a mixed response from fans.

"When we heard 'Ghostface in New York and he has a shotgun' it was like: 'What?!' The two feelings of 'What are we doing?' and 'We have to do it!' are often intrinsically tied and that was a perfect example of that," said co-director Matt Bettinelli-Olpin.

Scream VI is out in cinemas now.
