Gossip Girl star Thomas Doherty has his next movie role lined up with romantic drama Dandelion.
Doherty, best known for playing Maximus 'Max' Wolfe in the HBO Max reboot of the Upper East Side teen drama, will star opposite Don't Worry Darling's KiKi Layne (via Variety).
Written and directed by Nicole Riegel, Layne plays Dandelion, an aspiring singer-songwriter from Cincinnati who's struggling to turn her ambitions into a career.

When she accepts a gig at a motorcycle rally away from home, she meets Doherty's Casey, a guitarist who has also given up on his own dream.

Dandelion then decides to join Casey's travelling group of musicians, as the two fall for one another and change the course of their artistic paths.
Doherty has already played a musician in the short-lived High Fidelity series on Hulu, led by Zoë Kravitz as a gender-flipped version of the 2000 movie's protagonist.
He portrayed Liam Shawcross, a young Scottish musician who Kravitz's Rob has a fling with.
As Gossip Girl is officially returning for a second season, Doherty is expected to reprise the role Max. In an interview with Digital Spy last year, the actor described playing a pansexual character as "liberating".

"The word I would use is liberating. It definitely did open my eyes to my preconceived notions of what sexuality was, and sexual identity was, and sexual preference was," Doherty said.
The new instalment, which is due to premiere next month, will also welcome a character from the original Gossip Girl.
Michelle Trachtenberg's Georgina Sparks is to make an unexpected comeback to the show, and fans can rest assured her return won't mean good news.
Dandelion will be released in 2023. Gossip Girl returns on December 1, 2022 and airs on HBO Max in the US, and broadcasts on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK.
