The next instalment of the Planet of the Apes franchise was announced back in 2019, and now Disney has given it an official release date.
The movie, titled Kingdom of the Planets of the Apes, will be released in May 2024, as officially confirmed by Disney earlier this week.
Directed by Maze Runner's Wes Ball, it will be set several years after 2017's War for the Planet of the Apes, though further plot details are yet to be revealed.

The official 20th Century Studios Instagram page confirmed that production is starting at some point this month.
It was also confirmed last week that Jessica Jones' Eka Darville will star in the film alongside previously announced cast members Owen Teague (It), Freya Allan (The Witcher), and Peter Macon (The Orville).
This will be the tenth movie in the Planet of the Apes franchise and the fourth in 20th Century's reboot saga, although it was initially thought to be a complete reboot.
Ball, however, shut down the claims in December 2019, revealing it would carry on from the trilogy. He said: "Don't worry. I won't ruin the surprises, but it's safe to say Caesar's legacy will continue..."

The reboot kicked off with 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which was later followed by 2014's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and 2017's War for the Planet of the Apes.

"With Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes we are privileged to continue the series' tradition of imaginative, thought-provoking cinema, and can't wait to share Wes' extraordinary vision for this new chapter with audiences in 2024."
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will be released in May 2024.
