The film, with Gyllenhaal's involvement, has been rumoured since November last year, but now it has been officially announced by Amazon with an imminent start.
"I'm thrilled to put my own spin on the beloved Road House legacy. And I can't wait to show audiences what Jake and I are going to do with this iconic role," Liman said in a statement, while super-producer Joel Silver (who worked on the original) said: "Doug and I have each made some big, boisterous action movies and are ready to bring everything we have to this one."

The original film saw Patrick Swayze as a bouncer hired to work in a rough Missouri bar, but ends up clashing with the crime boss who runs the town. The Jake Gyllenhaal remake casts him as a former UFC fighter who is hired at Florida Keys roadhouse, and will likely end up in a similar predicament.
The original film was not a huge commercial success, but became a cult classic.
