Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton has been confirmed as the director of the fifth Avengers movie, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cretton has signed on to direct The Kang Dynasty which will be one of two new Avengers movies that will be released in 2025 to round off Phase 6 of the MCU.

The confirmation of Cretton for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty comes following the huge success of Shang-Chi last year, with Cretton set to return to helm the Shang-Chi sequel too.

Alongside Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Shang-Chi 2, Cretton is also teaming up with Andrew Guest, a recent veteran of Disney+'s Hawkeye series, to produce a new Marvel live-action series based on Wonder Man, which will see him direct at least one episode of the show.

During today's (July 26) announcement, Marvel has also confirmed a number of directors who are set to helm various Phase 5 projects, with Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli) set to direct Blade, Julius Onah (Luce) directing Captain America: New World Order and Jake Schreier (Paper Towns) directing Thunderbolts.

Meanwhile, Marvel Studios recently confirmed a timeline for its upcoming films and where they fit in with each of the MCU's different phases during its recent Comic-Con presentation.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will round out Phase 4 of the MCU, with Phase 5 kicking off with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in February 2023 and closing with Thunderbolts in July 2024.

Phase 6 will then launch with Fantastic Four in November 2024 and will close with a brand new double-bill of Avengers movies – Avengers: The Kang Dynasty on May 2, 2025 and Avengers: Secret Wars on November 7, 2025.

The presentation also confirmed that Phases 4 to 6 would be officially titled The Multiverse Saga.

A new poster for Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania recently revealed the first look at Kang the Conqueror (of The Kang Dynasty).

Marvel's Andy Park debuted the poster, which shows Kang the Conqueror (played by Jonathan Majors) looming menacingly behind Ant-Man, The Wasp and Cassie Lang.

Jonathan Majors made his MCU debut as He Who Remains in Loki, but says that the Kang that we'll see in the third Ant-Man movie is different to the character from that series.

"The character is different so you move a different way; my psychology has shifted because of the character," Majors previously explained. "He's just a different guy. He Who Remains is not in Ant-Man. It's Kang."

Avengers: Endgame is out now on DVD, Blu-ray, 3D, 4K and digital download, and is available on Disney+.
