Spider-Man spin-off Madame Web has reeled in the great Adam Scott, who starred earlier this year in Severance.

According to Deadline, his role opposite Dakota Johnson's super-psychic is unspecified right now, so we'll have to wait and see if any other details are released ahead of filming.

Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria), Emma Roberts (American Horror Story), Celeste O'Connor (Ghostbusters: Afterlife) and Tahar Rahim (The Serpent) were previously announced as cast members too.

Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (Morbius) co-wrote the screenplay for director SJ Clarkson (Anatomy of a Scandal).

In her original Marvel Comics line, Madame Web is depicted as an elderly woman suffering from a neuromuscular disease known as myasthenia gravis, so to survive, she's connected to a life-support system resembling a spider's web.

Unless Johnson gets caked in ageing makeup, though, we can see this particular adaptation going down a different road.

Her powers include telepathy, clairvoyance, foreknowledge, sensing psionic abilities in others, and astral projection.

Discussing her preparation for a mystery Madame Web role, Sweeney revealed back in April: "I've been ordering a bunch of comic books. There's a lot to learn. I've always been a really big fan of all of the Marvel and Sony Universe movies.

"I've grown up watching them all and I've been engulfed in the entire world my entire life, so being able to be a part of that is such an incredible, incredible thing."

Will she be able to impress her co-stars with two Emmy Awards?

Expect Madame Web to arrive in cinemas late next year.
