Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness spoilers follow.
After much speculation, Doctor Strange 2 eventually confirmed the involvement of the Illuminati in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Not the kind beloved by conspiracists, but rather the secret group of superheroes who work together to protect the world from dangerous threats, as well as shape the world the best way they see it.

In Multiverse of Madness, we were introduced to the Illuminati when Strange pays a visit to Earth-838, with John Krasinski and Anson Mount making their debuts as Mister Fantastic and Black Bolt, respectively.

Unfortunately for John and Anson, because their involvement in Doctor Strange 2 wasn't confirmed until the very last minute, the pair had no costumes.
Costume designer Graham Churchyard has revealed as much, admitting that he feels sorry for Marvel's VFX supervisor Janek Sirrs for having to "shoehorn those in at the last moment".
"We had designs for other characters, and then we didn't have casting and there were travel bans," he explained (via ComicBook.com).
"When it came down to those two characters being settled on, it was then even too late to make something locally in Los Angeles. Just way too late and too close."
Fellow Illuminati member Captain Marvel, played by Lashana Lynch in Doctor Strange 2, was fully fleshed out, however.
"We built that entirely from scratch," Churchyard revealed. "I was really happy with Lashana's costume. The fit and performance, and she was able to fight."
Despite the time, energy, and apparently stress in getting the Illuminati on set, there is more footage out there that fans have yet to see.
"A lot was cut and it's a very quick end for the Illuminati," Graham added. "We shot a ton more, but maybe it'll be on the Blu-ray." Let's hope.
