First look at Chris Pine in his directorial debut heist movie

A first look at Chris Pine in his new movie Poolman has been released – and he looks pretty unrecognisable.

The comedy will mark the Star Trek actor's directorial debut and sees him re-team with Wonder Woman's Patty Jenkins, who is a producer. The story follows a technician who looks after a pool in LA, and soon uncovers a water heist plot.

In the new picture, Pine sports long hair and a shaggy beard as he also dons a stripey top and yellow hat.

Speaking earlier this year about Poolman, the star told The Hollywood Reporter: "I woke up one day and it just seemed like it was fated that I was going to direct this film.

"It was an idea that I had years ago. I was sitting with Patty Jenkins, shooting the shit, and it came up, and we started talking about 'poolman'… and that made me laugh. I just followed that giggle, and that giggle led to an idea."

Pine has an impressive cast on board too, including Captain Marvel's Annette Bening, Hunters' Jennifer Jason Leigh and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Danny DeVito, with Pine writing the script alongside Ian Gotler.

Alongside Poolman, the actor is due to return to the Star Trek franchise as Captain James T Kirk in the upcoming fourth movie. However, the star admitted earlier this year that the announcement of Star Trek 4 took him by surprise.

"I think everybody was like, 'Did you hear about this?' We're usually the last people to find out, but I do know we're all excited," he told Variety. "Whenever they want to send us a script, we're ready for it."

He added: "I love the story. I love Star Trek. I love my people."

Poolman is currently in production, though a release date is yet to be confirmed.
