Parks and Recreation star Jenny Slate's newest movie, Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, is a movie that was a decade in the making. But, going on the early critical reception, it was well worth the wait.
The film, produced by a team including Slate and director Dean Fleischer-Camp, has scored a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes at time of writing, with a 92% audience score.

The movie is a mock documentary about a 1-inch-tall adorable anthropomorphic shell, based on a popular YouTube series by Fleischer-Camp that debuted in 2010. Over a decade later, Marcel has his own film.
Marvel lives with his grandma Connie and Alan, their pet ball of lint. The family has endured tragedy, and were once part of a much larger community of shells.
When a documentary filmmaker named Dean (played by the filmmaker himself) moves into the house they live in, he bonds with Marcel and starts to film him, posting the short movies online.
As a result, Marcel finds millions of fans around the world – but his fame also opens up a whirlwind of drama, from danger for the family to hopes of finding long-lost loved ones.
Since its premiere last week, the A24 produced faux-documentary has picked up positive critics' reviews.

"Marcel the Shell with Shoes On gives us the opportunity for a delicate, whimsical and poignant escape that will make you feel stronger, taller and better for it on the other side," wrote Tara Bennett from Paste magazine.
"Marcel is a wisp of a wistful film, whether it's being existentially deep or essentially silly. Most of all, it just feels like a salve," wrote Rolling Stone film critic David Fear.
The film is a combination of stop-motion and traditional animation as well as live action, starring Slate alongside the likes of Isabella Rossellini, Rosa Salazar, Thomas Mann and Lesley Stahl.
Marcel the Shell with Shoes On is out now in US cinemas. UK release details are to be confirmed.
