As the long-anticipated Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa gets underway with production, new details have been released, which reveal that a well-known villain will be making a comeback.

The new synopsis teases the return of Immortan Joe, played by Hugh Keays-Bryne in the 2015 film, who will be returning alongside the main villain of the prequel, Warlord Dementus.

The synopsis (via Collider) reads: "As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus.

"Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home."

It has not yet been confirmed who will take up the role of the notorious villain. However, since our main casting confirmation is Anya Taylor-Joy as Furiosa, it's anybody's game.

Taylor-Joy is set to star alongside Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Tom Burke (Strike), both likely candidates to assume the roles of Dementus and Immortan Joe. And this month, fans recently received an update that production had officially begun with a delayed release date set for May 24, 2024.

Speaking about working on Furiosa with director George Miller, Taylor-Joy said: "The thing that makes me most excited about Furiosa is, No. 1, George Miller. That brain is incredible. I'm also really excited to do something physical. To physically become something else is something that will weirdly give me a lot of peace."

Hemsworth has also spoken about his excitement about the film. "It is a huge honour," he said. "A lot of pressure, but exciting pressure that is certainly motivating.

"It really is, out of everything I've done, the biggest pinch-myself moment, because I've grown up watching it and it's so iconic."
