Ms Marvel actor Matt Lintz has revealed he was in contention to play Spider-Man before Tom Holland sealed the deal.

Now playing tech-whizz Bruno Carrelli opposite Iman Vellani's superpowered Kamala Khan/Ms Marvel, Lintz spoke to Insider recently about his history with Marvel Studios.

Ahead of Captain America: Civil War, Lintz recalled: "I was in the top for Spider-Man, which eventually went to this guy, Tom Holland. I don't know if you know who he is. He's such an amazing person and an actor."

There's no bitterness, though, as Lintz went on to describe his eventual Ms Marvel casting as life coming "full circle".

He was even introduced to Holland in Atlanta back when his show and Spider-Man: No Way Home were shooting scenes close to each other.

"It was cool because he ended up coming to one of our sets one day and I just got to speak to him, and I look up to him in so many ways," Lintz recalled.

Further into his chat, The Walking Dead star opened up about the surprise journey to becoming Bruno.

"It was my freshman year of college. I was about two months in and I got an audition," he explained. "It was untitled, but for Marvel. I auditioned a couple times. I was like, 'OK, well, I probably won't get it."

Soon after, Lintz was taking part in a screen test with Vellani and Rish Shah (who plays Kamran), which went down a treat amongst Marvel's casting directors.

"I went straight into filming and I had to drop out of school to do this," he said. "School's always there. If I want to go back, I can go back.

"But right now, I'm doing this and I'm really happy."

Ms Marvel streams on Disney+, with new episodes premiering on Wednesdays.
