Marvel star Elizabeth Olsen has spoken about her frustrations at being part of the MCU, revealing she has missed out on other roles as a result.

The actress has been a staple of the cinematic universe as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch for the past eight years, most recently appearing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

However, the actress explained in a new interview that her commitments to Marvel have meant she has had to turn down jobs that she feels more "aligned" to.

"It took me away from the physical ability to do certain jobs that I thought were more aligned with the things I enjoyed as an audience member," Olsen told The New York Times. "And this is me being the most honest."

She added: "I started to feel frustrated. I had this job security but I was losing these pieces that I felt were more part of my being. And the further I got away from that, the less I became considered for it."

Citing one example, Olsen said she felt "heartbreak" at losing a role in 2015's The Lobster, recalling: "I was in a contract [for Marvel] I could not get out of. So that didn't work out."

Alongside the Marvel movie universe, Olsen has also appeared on the TV side of things, famously starring in last year's WandaVision.

While there's no word on a second season, the actress was recently asked whether she would appear in the new spin-off for Kathryn Hahn's character Agatha Harkness.

"I would do anything with Hahn," she told Good Morning America. "I mean, no, I'm not appearing on it — not as far as I'm aware of. But I love that woman so much. So fun, that entire show was just filled with lots of joy, it was great."

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is out now in UK and US cinemas.
