Director Zack Snyder has revealed a first-look at his upcoming sci-fi movie Rebel Moon – starring Djimon Hounsou – as production gets going.
Snyder shared three behind-the-scenes photos – including a look at Hounsou's character, General Titus – to mark the first day of filming for the Netflix movie on Tuesday (April 19).
A stream of fans replied to the post welcoming the project, with one user tweeting: " We are beyond the MOON excited for this! Pure fire pure cinema heading our way! #RebelMoon."
Posting alongside the glimpse at the movie, the Justice League filmmaker tweeted: "Day 1 #RebelMoon. It's begun."

Another fan compared Snyder's film to George Lucas first establishing the Star Wars series, writing: "When George Lucas created Star Wars it was cause he couldn't do Flash Gordon. When Zack Snyder created Rebel Moon it was cause he couldn't do Star Wars. We're witnessing cinematic history. We're living it. Breathe it in."

Lucas has spoken previously about how he had made an unsuccessful attempt to get the rights to make a Flash Gordon movie before instead starting work on Star Wars: A New Hope, while Snyder's Rebel Moon had its initial origins in a Star Wars pitch, before going in a different direction.
"This is me growing up as an Akira Kurosawa fan, a Star Wars fan," Snyder said when the movie was announced. "It's my love of sci-fi and a giant adventure."

Rebel Moon follows a peaceful colony residing on the edge of the galaxy, until it is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical regent named Belisarius (Rupert Friend). The colonists deploy a young woman with a mysterious past (played by Sofia Boutella), who gathers warriors from neighbouring planets to take a stand.
Snyder confirmed Charlie Hunnam, Ray Fisher, Doona Bae, Jena Malone, Staz Nair, E. Duffy, Charlotte Maggi and Sky Yang as part of a large ensemble cast in February, and it's since been reported that Stranger Things' Cary Elwes and Ant-Man's Corey Stoll are among further stars who have signed up for the movie.
Rebel Moon also reunites Snyder, who will co-write, direct and produce the film, with Army of the Dead co-screenwriter Shay Hatten and 300's Kurt Johnstad.
Rebel Moon is in production and will premiere on Netflix.
