Venom: The Last Dance has landed in cinemas to continue the tangled web of Sony's Spider-Man universe.
If it's got you in the mood for a Spidey rewatch, then you're going to have to decide exactly how to do it.
There have been three separate Spider-Man timelines/eras now, as well as crossovers with the MCU and an adjacent Sony universe which may (or may not) take place in one of the previous Spider-Man universes.
What's worth noting is that, as of right now, the Sony universe – officially called Sony's Spider-Man Universe – is separate from the MCU, although there have been crossovers in Morbius and the Venom movies, and all three Spideys appeared in No Way Home.
Confused? We don't blame you.
So we're here to help with the definitive guide to watching the Spider-Man movies in order, including the Venom series and more.

All Spider-Man movies in release order
If all you want to do is watch a Spider-Man movie or a movie set in Sony's Spider-Man universe, then release order is the easiest way in.
This takes in the various timelines, so it's a comprehensive list of every Spidey movie or Spidey-adjacent movie since Sam Raimi's Spider-Man way back in 2002.
So here's every Spider-Man movie in release order:
• Spider-Man (2002)
• Spider-Man 2 (2004)
• Spider-Man 3 (2007)
• The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
• The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)
• Captain America: Civil War (2016)
• Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
• Venom (2018)

Sony's Spider-Man Universe timeline
If Venom: The Last Dance has got you in the mood to focus solely on Sony's Spider-Man universe which, weirdly, has yet to properly feature Spider-Man, then it's easy enough to do in chronological order.
You'll have to make an MCU detour to get the entire story if you're dedicated to it. Luckily though, Venom 3 doesn't confuse things too much and, as it stands, is the most recent movie, chronologically speaking.
So here's how to watch Sony's Spider-Man Universe in chronological order:
1. Madame Web
Watch now: Prime Video | iTunes | Microsoft Store
Set in 2003, Madame Web is (chronologically) the first movie in Sony's Spider-Man Universe. It's an origin story for Cassandra Webb, but it's also closely connected to Peter Parker.
The story follows Cassandra, a paramedic who, after a near-death experience, realises she has some extraordinary clairvoyant abilities. These include seeing the future, which is how she finds out three teenagers are about to get murdered and decides to stop it.
Wealthy businessman Ezequiel Sims is hunting down Julia, Anya and Mattie because he knows they will kill him in the future. These young women are set out to become three different versions of Spider-Women.
And Spider-Man's involvement? As it's set almost two decades before the events of the MCU's Spider-Man movies, this film introduces us to a pregnant Mary Parker – who, by the end of the movie, gives birth to Peter.
Which Peter Parker though? Your guess is as good as ours.
2. Venom
Watch now: Prime Video | iTunes | Microsoft Store
After a failed attempt to start its own universe with The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Sony's universe restarted with Venom, which wasn't a hit with critics but did become a huge box-office success.
It's all relatively straightforward timeline-wise, but without a direct nod to Spider-Man, we don't know which Spidey exists in this universe. Since Tom Holland's version is in the MCU, it'll either be Andrew Garfield's or Tobey Maguire's.
However, the first Venom movie doesn't confirm anything either way and spends its time establishing Tom Hardy's antihero instead.
3. Venom: Let There Be Carnage
Watch now: Prime Video | iTunes | Microsoft Store
Now, here's where things start getting a little complicated – but not during the movie itself, which focuses on Venom's battle with serial killer Cletus Kasady, aka Carnage.
The complication comes in the credits scene where Eddie Brock and Venom are mysteriously transported to another universe. They see J Jonah Jameson on a TV report about Spider-Man, and Venom licks the screen.
At the time of Venom 2's release, it wasn't clear exactly what had happened, but we only had to wait a few months for it all to be explained.
MCU Detour – Spider-Man: No Way Home
Watch now: Prime Video | iTunes | Microsoft Store
In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange's initial spell to make people forget Peter Parker is Spider-Man goes wrong. Instead, he brings anybody who knew Peter Parker was Spider-Man into the MCU.
This includes villains from other universes, such as Green Goblin and Electro, and explains how Venom got transported to the MCU. While Eddie Brock doesn't know any Peter Parker (let alone that he's Spider-Man), Venom's "hive knowledge across universes" would.
As a result, Venom is pulled into the MCU, and Eddie is dragged along for the ride. He doesn't team up with the villains, though, and just gets drunk, as shown in No Way Home's credits scene.
When Doctor Strange successfully makes everybody forget who Peter Parker is, Eddie and Venom are transported back to their own universe, ending this particular crossover. But it turns out that there was another consequence...
4. Morbius
Watch now: Prime Video | iTunes | Microsoft Store
Technically, you could watch most of Morbius after either Venom movie, as there's only one reference to the wider universe.
FBI agent Alberto Rodriguez talks about "that thing in San Francisco", which is where the first two Venom movies are set. He could be referring to the events of either the first Venom movie or its sequel, so it's just whether you want to watch it between the two.
However, watching it after No Way Home makes more sense when it comes to the credits scenes, which feature an MCU crossover with Michael Keaton reprising his Homecoming role as Adrian Toomes.
We see a multiverse crack in the sky, similar to the one in No Way Home as Doctor Strange struggles to contain the spell. This, somehow, leads to Toomes being transported to Sony's Spider-Man universe, despite everybody else ending up in their own universe.
It's unclear if Toomes is here to stay in this universe, but the credits scene sees him suggest a team-up with Morbius (hello, Sinister Six), so maybe he'll stick around. But that does not mean Morbius is in the MCU – it's a separate universe.
5. Venom: The Last Dance
Watch now: Cinemas
You could watch Venom: The Last Dance straight after the sequel as there's nothing to link it to Morbius, so it's your call how you want to play it.
The threequel picks up immediately after the events of the sequel and even replays the No Way Home credit scene of Eddie getting drunk in a bar. He's then thrown back to this universe where the rest of the movie takes place.
There's no Spider-Man swinging in for a cameo and still no real indication whether this is the same universe as Tobey Maguire's Spidey or Andrew Garfield's Spidey. If this really is the end for Eddie and Venom, we may never find out.
Tom Holland's Spider-Man movies in chronological order
If you just want to focus on the current Spider-Man, then it's easy enough to watch all six MCU appearances to date for Tom Holland's webslinger, ahead of the release of Spider-Man 4.
Here's how to watch all of Holland's appearances as Spider-Man in the MCU to date:
• Captain America: Civil War (2016)
• Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
• Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
• Avengers: Endgame (2019)
• Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
• Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Spider-Man animated movies in chronological order
Maybe you're more of an animated Spider-Man fan, then the Spider-Verse series is where you want to be concentrating your Spidey rewatch.
There has only been two movies so far, and we're waiting endlessly for Beyond the Spider-Verse to confirm its release date.
Here's the chronological order of Spider-Man animated movies, which is the same as their release order:
• Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
• Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
Upcoming Spider-Man Universe movies
Venom: The Last Dance might be the end of the Venom series for now, but there are other movies to come in Sony's Spider-Man Universe.

• December 13, 2024 – Kraven the Hunter
• TBC – Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse
