Benedict Cumberbatch might not have won the Best Actor award for his performance in The Power of the Dog, but that didn't dampen his spirits at tonight's (March 13) BAFTAs.

Cumberbatch ultimately lost out to Will Smith for his role in King Richard, but made a joke about it later on in the ceremony. Cumberbatch took to the stage to accept Jane Campion's Best Director award in her absence, and reached into his pocket for the speech he was supposed to read out on her behalf.

As he took it out of his pocket and began reading, he joked: "That's my speech... oops! You don't lose to Will Smith, you win by being in his company."

Bridesmaids star Rebel Wilson hosted the ceremony, which took place at London's Royal Albert Hall, although her performance and style of humour divided viewers.

Big moments included her revealing a Daniel Craig tattoo on her leg, presenting Cumberbatch with a cake depicting his face, and giving out awards for her own categories, with winners receiving a gold spray-painted bra each.

The BAFTA Film Awards aired on BBC One, and are available to watch on iPlayer.
