Sir Patrick Stewart has addressed his rumoured Marvel return as X-Men's Charles Xavier in the new Doctor Strange adventure.

Last month, Marvel fans went wild as Stewart seemingly featured in the latest trailer for Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, aired during the Super Bowl.

Many instantly thought of Professor X when they heard an off-screen voice saying "You should tell him the truth" as an imprisoned Dr Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) is brought in front of The Illuminati.

Despite previously denying his involvement in the upcoming MCU film, Stewart has now entertained the possibility of a meeting between Cumberbatch's sorcerer and his professor Xavier – and seemingly confirmed he will indeed appear in the film directed by Sam Raimi.

"Professor X would be extraordinarily cautious and watchful, and perhaps feel a little insecure," Stewart told Jake's Takes.

The Star Trek: Picard star also recalled being inundated with messages once fans got to hear his voice in the new trailer.

"I had my phone turned off as it happened, so I didn't hear anything. It wasn't until the next morning when I woke up and looked at my phone and found that I had been bombarded with responses. My PR people had sent me reactions that they had detailed and passed onto me," he said.

"I actually didn't recognise my own voice. It sounded different. Whether I had a cold or something at the time, I don't know.

"I was astonished – and all they saw was the back of my shoulder and I think my earlobe, nothing else – that there would have been so many connections made. But it pleased me [to see the reactions]."

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is due to be released on May 5, 2022.
