Shang-Chi's Simu Liu hits back at critics as he reacts to sequel

Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings hero Simu Liu has hit back at critics following news that Marvel is officially working on a sequel.

News of a second Shang-Chi movie was officially confirmed yesterday (December 6), with filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton returning as director.

Clearly thrilled to be reprising his role as the trained assassin-turned-superhero, Simu shared the news on Twitter alongside a message to any Shang-Chi detractors.

"Flopped so hard we got a sequel!!" the actor wrote.

A continuation of Shang-Chi was announced by Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, who praised director Cretton for bringing a "unique perspective and skill" to the origin story.

"Destin is an amazing collaborator who brought a unique perspective and skill to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings," Feige said.

"We had a fantastic time working together on the film and he has so many intriguing ideas for stories to bring to life on Disney+, so we're thrilled to expand our relationship with him and can't wait to get started."

While any Shang-Chi 2 plot is no doubt in its infancy, there is every chance that we can expect more action from Florian Munteanu's Razor Fist, who ended up joining Xialing's new iteration of the Ten Rings organisation at the end of the movie.

Revealing that his character was initially meant to die in the climactic battle in Ta Lo, Munteanu teased there's more to Razor than fans might release. "We had that big end battle, and you [originally] would have seen a bit more there from Razor Fist," he said.

"I'm looking forward to people seeing that because there was a reason why he replaced his blade with the dragon sword and fights with two swords, but I don't want to spoil too much and I don't want to give away too much."

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is now playing in cinemas in both the US and the UK. It's also available to stream on Disney+.
